It is braided from expanded graphite yarn reinforced with nickel wire. This type of packing provides high mechanical strength while retaining all the properties of the unreinforced expanded graphite packing, such as thermal conductivity, chemical resistance, and a low coefficient of friction. Other types of reinforcement materials, such as stainless steel wire, can also be used.

Reinforced Graphite Packings can also be given anti-corrosion features.
